About EmergyCare

Primary Industry: Health Science

EmergyCare’s mission is to save lives and positively impact the health, well-being, and safety of the communities we serve.

Vision
EmergyCare will be an industry-leading organization by taking an innovative and evolutionary approach to each of the services it provides. Through collaborative efforts with other healthcare and community organizations, EmergyCare will enhance the ability of the community to receive the right care at the right place at the right time.

EmergyCare has gone from providing basic life support (BLS) services to the City of Erie in 1983 to providing advanced life support (ALS) care to a vast region of northwestern Pennsylvania today. EmergyCare is one of the largest nonprofit ambulance services in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, covering more than 2,100 square miles and protecting approximately 300,000 lives. EmergyCare has been recognized for its excellence by the PA Emergency Health Service Council (PEHSC), the American Ambulance Association (AAA), PA Ambulance Association, and American Heart Association. These accolades are a testament to EmergyCare’s commitment to providing the highest quality of care to the constituents of Northwestern Pennsylvania.

EmergyCare provides Emergency and Non-Emergency medical transportation at the Basic / Advanced / Critical Care Life Support levels, inter-agency paramedic intercept response, paratransit (wheelchair) / and medical taxi transport solutions. EmergyCare’s diversified service lines integrate with local and state healthcare organizations to play a pivotal role in providing the best prehospital-based medicine. EmergyCare’s Critical Care Transport Team brings the hospital ICU to the patient’s bedside, allowing for the best possible clinical outcomes.

The operations team consists of approximately 200 wheelchair transporters, EMTs, PHRNs, and Paramedics, and 68 vehicles, including 33 ambulances stationed in Erie, Titusville, Warren, and Kane, PA. Organization-wide, EmergyCare runs approximately 65,000 transports annually.

EmergyCare’s tactical paramedics integrate with local law enforcement agencies and SWAT to provide critical medical coverage in high-risk law enforcement situations. EmergyCare’s Tactical Medic team supports Erie City Police, Erie County Sheriff’s Department, PA State Police, and the Attorney General’s office.

EmergyCare has been a leader in EMS education and training since 1986 when the PA Department of Health recognized it as an EMS Training Institute. The EmergyCare Training Institute offers a wide variety of programs open to the public, including Babysitting Safety Classes, CPR, Camp EMS, and Professional Education. EmergyCare offers healthcare provider and layperson CPR classes monthly.

EmergyCare is a PA Department of Health training facility for Emergency Medical Technicians and Advanced EMTs to be certified as Nationally Registered EMT and AEMTs. EmergyCare - UPMC - CEM Paramedic Training Consortium is a unique partnership that offers high-quality training leading to testing and certification as a National Registry Paramedic (EMT-P). The goal of the program is to prepare competent entry-level Paramedics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains. The EmergyCare-UPMC-CEM Paramedic Training Consortium is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions.

In 2013, in response to an ever-increasing demand and a rapidly dwindling supply of Emergency Medical Service providers, EmergyCare held its first annual Camp EMS. The 6-day, 5-night camp goal is to cultivate an interest in the Prehospital Emergency Medical Profession by exposing youth ages 14 – 17 to the exciting; high-paced; high-demand; Prehospital profession. Hands-on activities for the campers include medical, and trauma patient assessment, airway management lab, heart and lung anatomy/dissection, history taking and vital signs assessment, advanced life support assist, mass casualty/triage, and incident command process, spinal immobilization, splinting, and other immobilization. The camp also helps the participants develop essential life skills such as daily physical fitness, self-discipline, interpersonal communication, and teamwork.
