Field Trip Description: Explore the World of Media Production at Community Access Media!
Welcome to an exciting hands-on field trip at Community Access Media, where students will dive into the dynamic world of media production! During this interactive experience, students will be split into two groups and rotate through two engaging activities designed to spark creativity, build technical skills, and foster teamwork.
Activity 1: Green Screen Guessing Game (Studio)
Step into our professional studio and experience the magic of chroma key technology! In this fun, Who's Line Is It Anyway?-inspired game, one student will stand in front of a green screen while their classmates use a video switcher to display surprising and hilarious images behind them. The student in the spotlight will try to guess what's appearing on the screen behind them, all while learning about the technical and creative aspects of green screen production. Students will also get hands-on experience operating studio equipment, including cameras, lighting, and audio gear, while discovering what it takes to perform in front of an audience.
Activity 2: Wacky Mock Podcast (Video Podcast Studio)
Next, students will head to our video podcast studio to host their very own mock podcast! Armed with quirky and imaginative interview questions, students will take turns as hosts and guests, creating a lively and entertaining show. They'll learn how to set up and use professional audio equipment, frame shots with cameras, and engage an audience—all while having a blast with their peers. This activity encourages creativity, public speaking, and collaboration, giving students a taste of what it's like to produce a podcast in a professional setting.
What Students Will Learn:
Technical Skills: Operating a video switcher, using chroma key technology, and setting up audio/video equipment.
Performance Skills: Building confidence while performing in front of an audience and collaborating with peers.
Community Media: Understanding the role of a community media center and how it empowers individuals to share their voices and stories.
After each group completes their activity, they'll switch places to ensure everyone gets a chance to experience both the studio and podcast environments. By the end of the field trip, students will leave with a deeper appreciation for media production, new technical skills, and unforgettable memories of their time at Community Access Media!
Join us for a day of creativity, learning, and fun—where every student gets to be a star!
